Evernote has laid off the majority of its employees in the United States and will relocate the majority of its operations to Europe.

Evernote said yesterday that it had laid off the majority of its staff in the United States and Chile. Bending Spoons, Evernote's Italian parent company, is now relocating the majority of the company's operations to Europe.

According to the company, the move is meant to "boost operational efficiency and make the most of the Bending Spoons employer brand, which is extremely strong in Europe."

Bending Spoons purchased Evernote in November of last year, and Evernote CEO was cited at the time as stating the deal would enable the firm work on developing new features by leveraging Bending Spoons' "proven app expertise and wide range of proprietary technologies." Bending Spoons previously fired off 129 employees in February, with a company official telling Tech Crunch at the time that the company's unprofitable nature was to blame.
